The Maasai Olympics

The Hunt for medals, not lions

A modern rite of passage for young men looking to prove themselves within their community. Traditionally their tribal custom at this age would see young warriors hunt lions with spears as a display of their strength, agility and bravery. The Maasai Olympics invites competitors to display their skills in speed and accuracy in spear throwing, bows and arrows, jumping and running. This event has drawn huge attendance across the region from Maasai clans across the Kenyan Tanzanian border to congregate and compete. The Maasai Olympics has saved countless lions and drawn massive awareness to the conservation effort collaborating with Maasai as the primary guardians of their heritage lands
